The Importance of Edge Trimming or CNC Milling in the AEROSPACE Sector

At BERMAQ, we know that every detail counts. From lamination to autoclave curing, the entire process is designed to achieve the highest quality standards in composite material parts. However, a critical stage that often goes unnoticed —but makes a significant difference in the final result— is CNC edge trimming.

Edge trimming is the process of finishing and profiling the edges of a part after curing, removing excess material, burrs, or imperfections, and ensuring it meets the exact dimensions required by the CAD design. This phase is especially important in high-structural-responsibility parts, where the margin of error must be practically zero.

Leading the Future of Precision CNC Machining

At BERMAQ, we have always bet on the technological advancement of our latest-generation CNC machines, capable of millimetric precision even on complex geometries. The advantages of this system are clear:

Absolute repeatability: each part comes out exactly the same as the previous one, meeting the highest standards in aerospace, railway, defense, and automotive sectors.
Speed and efficiency: automated edge trimming reduces cycle times and avoids rework and corrections.
Surface quality: finishes are clean, without fraying or damage to the laminate, which is essential in materials like carbon fiber.

Critical Function in Assembly

A part may be perfectly laminated, but if it does not fit with exact tolerances in its structural assembly, it is not functional. Edge trimming ensures perfect integration with the rest of the system, whether it is a racing monocoque, an aerospace structure, or an armored component.

Our Commitment

At BERMAQ, we understand that excellence is not only in how a part is manufactured but also in how it is finished. CNC milling with our LINK, SG, and SG-A equipment is not just another technical step; it is a statement of our commitment to quality, precision, and constant innovation.

Materials

BERMAQ machines are used for machining non-ferrous materials, especially epoxy resin models, aluminum sheets, and composite edge trimming on 5 interpolated axes.

Applications

Among its various applications, BERMAQ milling machines are used in the manufacture of lightweight jigs or aluminum/epoxy resin fixtures, which are used to calibrate and position parts on the machine. This is especially useful in processes such as carbon fiber edge trimming or sheet metal cutting. Additionally, our machines are used in machining structural aircraft components, such as coverings and ribs, mainly working on aluminum sheets—both flat and formed—and carbon fiber parts.
